I really liked this assignment because I was able to reflect on my own development in college. I was very detailed about my experiences. One section that stood out to me was "This ties into the second level 'Conventional,' in which behavior is guided by a need for approval. This is true of me because I wanted approval from friends regarding my physical appearance. I also did my best to maintain social order through my behavior and my moral skills had improved. I found myself wanting to have more friends and be honest and trustworthy. The final level is 'Postconventional'. As I grew older in college, I learned to have more common sense and sound judgment. Instead of focusing on social norms like drinking, I focused more on dignity and respect for myself and others."
Also "I should also point out that I had some negative experiences that changed me for the better. One time I met a group of friends in my hall and we went to a party together and I had fun. I was so glad to be socially accepted that I wanted to go to another party but made a bad decision in going by myself. I ended up being attacked by an older drunk male off campus. I ran out and made it okay, but filed a police report. I learned to make smarter decisions and not go out late in the dark by myself and associate myself with strangers."
These are just some of the many experiences that I plan on being open about to other students (to some extent) so that they do not make the same mistakes. They can learn to be themselves as well. I have a strong interest in being a building director, so this is of strong relevance. Even as a freshman academic adviser, I can encourage students to make wiser decisions and warn them about what they may experience in college.
