The Awakening

True Love's Kiss Activity

Snow White: (watch first 2:30 only)

Snow White is a princess living with her wicked step mother. Her step mother is obsessed with being the most beautiful and “fairest of all.” One day the step mother learns that she is no longer the most beautiful – Snow White has become the most beautiful. In anger, the step-mother tries to have Snow White killed but instead Snow White runs away to a forest and becomes friends with 7 dwarves who take her in. When the step mother learns Snow White is still alive, she poisons her with a cursed apple that puts Snow White into a death-like sleep which can only be ended with true love’s kiss from a prince. One year later a prince finds Snow White, kisses her awake, and they live happily ever after.

Sleeping Beauty:

At birth, a princess is cursed by an evil fairy. The curse declares that before the princess’s 16th birthday, she will prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die. A good fairy is able to soften the curse so that instead of dying, the princess will fall into a deep sleep and only awaken when she receives true love’s kiss. On her 16th birthday, the princess does prick her finger and falls into a deep sleep. Prince Charming, however, is able to find the princess, kill the evil fairy, and kiss the princess as she sleeps, reviving her so they can live happily ever after.

The Little Mermaid:

A 16-year old mermaid, Ariel, is fascinated with the human world. She studies it and in doing so, she becomes enamored with a human prince. She saves his life after a boat accident and sings to him. The prince remembers the voice but nothing else about who has saved him. Ariel makes a deal with a sea-witch to turn her into a human for 3 days. To do this, Ariel must give up her voice. As a human, if Ariel can receive true love’s kiss from the Prince, she can regain her voice and remain a human forever. If she cannot, then she turns back into a mermaid and must be the sea-witch’s slave.
