What are QR Codes?

QR Codes are Quick Response Codes, or codes you scan to gain access to some type of information online. INformation can be a website, contact info, phone number, text, etc.

Educational uses

1. Station cards - QR code may point at activities, or videos for further instruction (see video for an example)
2. Skill posters - additional information on practice task - see below for forearm pass example
3. Fitness Warm-up - see below
4. Worksheets ~ Create a 3 – In – A Row worksheets for students to play with another student.
5. Scavenger Hunts ~ Post codes around the school have student solve problems and find the correct answers. Teach students about navigation using QR codes (example: "star orienteering hunt")
6. Pass It ~ You can create several problems on one worksheet, cut them and play Pass It. Each student/group solves a problem and them pass it to the next student/group.
7. Contact Information for Parents and Students ~ Post in classroom for students and parents to obtain phone number, email address, class website, etc.
8. Notes ~ Such an easy way to post notes and great for students to always have access to them at all times.
9. Assignments ~ Post Homework assignments in codes for students to scan before leaving class.
10. Hints/Tutorials to assist on problems ~ Use when students are solving problems. They can scan the code when they are having trouble or need help.

How to create a QR Code

1. Open up a QR Code reader - there are many free once! Example: http://qrcode.kaywa.com/
2. Decide where the code will link to: URL, text, SMS, contact info,...
3. Input information
4. Generate code
5. Copy and past code into the document you need it - It is helpful to keep a log of all your codes or if you use them in the gym as station cards, you may want to have a number on the back so you know which code it is without having the scan the codes each time.

Types of Codes

1. Static: you input your info and that code is only valid for the specific info you put in.
2. Dynamic: you can change the information the code gives you without changing the code. Great for contact info - say you move offices or jobs, you can keep business cards with QR codes, just change the links!!
