Salmon Release May 5, 2017

The 3rd and 6th grade classes released approximately 350 salmon to the west branch of the Farmington River at Peoples State Forest. The cumulative developmental index on the day of the release was about 93%, as originally projected based on temperature control of the tank. Unfortunately, the photos taken with my cell phone were lost! The release went well despite the rain and colder temperatures. During the week prior to the release, the temperature of each tank was increased one degree celsius to more closely match the temperature of the river. At the time of the release, the water in the tank was 8 degrees celsius and the river water was about 10-11 degrees celsius. The fry swam quickly and found cover when we put them in the river. Good luck to them!
