December 2012 - Egg Delivery

Post date: Jan 05, 2013 11:37:27 PM

The salmon eggs were delivered to Hartland School on 12/12/12!

We were provided with about 200 eggs, which were placed in the chilled tank. Our cumulative developmental index was 36.785 on the day of delivery. Our target release date is May 3rd, which means we must keep the water temperature at a daily average of 3.2-3.3 degrees Celsius. If the water gets too warm, the eggs will mature too quickly.

If all goes well, we should see salmon hatching in late January or early February.

The salmon eggs are small pink spheres nestled between the gravel.

The eggs are thigmotropic, meaning they will respond and grow by contact with solid objects.
