November 2012 - Preparing for Salmon Egg Arrival

Post date: Jan 05, 2013 11:21:13 PM

Prior to the arrival of the salmon eggs, the tank setup must be prepared. This involves the construction of an insulating container for a 20-gallon tank, retrofitted to accommodate the chiller coils and aquarium filter. The water temperature must be kept only a few degrees above freezing and monitored every day and eggs must be kept in darkness. The rate of egg development is temperature dependent. The date of hatching and release date can be predicted using a daily development index calculation. Click on the pictures to enlarge the image.
