Dear Neighbors:
You may have read in the Columbia Flier that one of our neighbors was the victim of an armed mugging on October 2. The robbery occurred at 6:30 PM on a Saturday evening, right in front of his home on Green Dory Lane. In addition to the mugging, three attempted home break-ins have been reported to the HGTA board in the last month. These disturbing incidents indicate a growing pattern of criminal activity in our neighborhood.
As a community, we must come together now to fight crime. It is not simply enough to be worried about the problem. We must act! Homeowners and residents must show criminals that we will not stand for crime in Harper’s Glen!
We urge you to join the Harper’s Glen Neighborhood Watch committee. Following the Home & Personal Safety Seminar, the Howard County police will discuss the requirements our neighborhood must meet to become a certified Neighborhood Watch community. Without your involvement, our Neighborhood Watch will not get off the ground. Please come, to learn more and get involved.
Finally, we must become vigilant about reporting suspicious activity. Howard County Police have asked us time and time again to call them any time you notice suspicious activity in our neighborhood. Suspicious activity may include:
People walking behind the fence line of your home,
Anyone lurking around your home or your neighbors’ homes,
People sitting in parked cars for longer than a few minutes, and/or
Abandoned vehicles, especially those you do not recognize.
If you see suspicious activity, do not hesitate to call the Howard County Police at 410.313.2200. Don’t be shy! We need our neighbors to become the eyes and ears of Harper’s Glen. The police will not come unless you call.
Thank you for taking crime in our community seriously.
Sincerely,
Your neighbors on the HGTA Board
