Extra financial help:

The childcare costs element is available to all lone parents and couples, where both members are in work, regardless of the number of hours they work. The costs will continue one month after a period of work ends, so that a childcare placement can be secured and it will be easier to move to other work. Claims can also be made for deposits and advance costs.

Universal Credit has increased to 85% of actual childcare costs up to £646 for one child, and £1108 for two or more children.

Both members of a couple have to be in work for this to apply, unless there is some reason that the person who is not working is unable to look after the children. This amount is exempt from the benefits cap.

  • Childcare vouchers

Any employer can offer a scheme and all eligible working parents with children up to 16 years old can benefit. Childcare Vouchers benefit both basic and higher rate tax-payers and offer savings of up to £1866* per family, per year. Childcare Vouchers can be used to pay for all types of registered childcare, including childminders, out of school clubs, holiday schemes and tuition offered by qualifying provider.

The schemes I am registered with are Computershare , Accor,
AT WORK™, and if your Voucher scheme is not listed, let me know..

*Figures quoted relate to the maximum family savings, if both working parents are Basic rate tax-payers and use childcare vouchers. If you get childcare vouchers from your employer the amount of tax credits you get can go down.

  • Help for Students

If you're in further education you may be able to get extra financial help. This could come through the Care to Learn Scheme (for students under 20) or through the Learner Support Funds.

As a higher education student, you may be eligible for extra help. This could include a bursary, Child Tax Credit, Childcare Grant or help from the Access to Learn Fund.
Money may also be available through educational trusts or charities. Ask your student welfare advisor or LA for advice.
