Prudence is a Speech Language Pathologist specialising in working with pediatric and adolescents with speech and language disorders. She has trained and worked in a variety of clinical and school settings in both Queensland (Australia) and Singapore. In end 2009, Prudence extended her practice by moving into Sime Darby Centre at Dunearn Road with the objective of gathering a team of dedicated and highly skilled speech language pathologists and teaching professionals to work together.
Prudence’s caseload comprises of both international and local school children with articulation and phonological difficulties, motor speech disorders (e.g. dysarthria and dyspraxia), specific language impairment and central auditory processing disorder. In intervention, Prudence believes in integrating her understanding of the requirements of different school curriculum with language therapy. Facilitating critical thinking skills along with language remediation has always been the cornerstone of her practice.
Also a certified practitioner of RDI® (Relationship Development Intervention, Houston), and a practitioner of PROMPT (Prompt for Restructuring of Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets), Prudence aims bring a holistic approach to complex disorders. RDI has allowed her to gain a deeper understanding of typical cognitive development stages of every human being and the complexities that are brought about by disruption in the cognitive development process.
Prudence is a member of Speech Pathology Australia and The Speech and hearing Association of Singapore.
Perspective taking and Literacy Acquisition
Poor literacy acquisition has often been linked to poor phonological awareness, decoding difficulties, language impairment, inabillity to infer or form a mental gestalt. However, a weak ability in perspective-taking can lead to weak understanding of texts, particularly in chapter books, or literary texts. In this workshop, Prudence Low, a speech language pathologist will share her thoughts and views of this aspect of impairment, how it affects various population of students, implications for future learning and how teachers and learning support teachers could help.
