Description
"Where are the women in science?"
"Is a career in science a viable career option for Asians?"
"What will really inspire our future scientists?"
Do the answers lie in comics? Did "Doraemon" (the popular classic Japanese comic book about a boy and his robot cat) and "Astroboy" inspire a generation of Japanese robotics specialists?
Science education in Singapore used to be geared towards producing production-level engineers. But equally important are Asian scientists who can work with their Western counterparts to solve global problems. To that aim, "Sir Fong's Adventures In Science" is a comic book series produced to instill greater interest in youths for a career in Science. The comic series also aims to be a foundation towards modern education approaches by integrating the creative visual art of comics, storytelling and curriculum-based topics.
With 3 books in the series, Otto compares his experience in Science education as a full-time teacher and comic artist, and shares some insights into how Science is made fun in and out of the classrooms.
