Hand it to the puppet!
Introduction:
The value of puppets in Primary education is often undervalued particularly in the higher Infants and Junior schools.
It is a vital media that should not be restricted to the confines of the Early Years curriculum (although it is highly valued here!).
Puppets are an exciting resources to nuture self confidence in speaking, security in sharing ideas and a conduit for expressing ideas and thoughts.
The purpose of this workshop is to provide a 'Hands on' opportunity to share the experience of using puppets as a valuable tool across the currciulum and as a focal point in emotional litercay. The workshop will include a brief introduction to the technical skills of bringing a puppet alive and the why the teacher must actively embrace the role-play that puppets offer as a communicative tool.
Many children when asked will say' they know it's a puppet' yet they will equally show empathy when the pupet laughs, cries or shows surprise. This is the keystone of how puppets can tap into developing children's confidence to express themselves.
