How to Run a Reading Workshop

Description:

This session will:

  • explore the structure of a reading workshop ( including mini lesson, independent reading and sharing)

  • share practical ideas for mini lessons

  • examine the teacher role including conferring skills and how to conduct guided reading sessions

  • explore different ways for students to share and feedback their thoughts

Audience:

The session is aimed primarily at Grades 3-5 teachers who would like to know more about the practical organsation of a reading workshop within a classroom.

Biography:

Helen Gamble is a Grade 4 classroom teacher and Literacy Coach for Grades 3-5 at UWCSEA. She has taught in the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore across all Primary age ranges. Helen enjoys teaching literacy and supporting other teachers in their teaching of the subject. She follows the Balanced Literacy approach and has received training from educators linked with Teachers College Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University.
