Manglayang

The loop proposed here is from Cileunyi. It can be done in 2 days/1 night. It's an easy week-end outing from Jakarta, as Cileunyi is on the main road from Jakarta to Tasikmalaya, just after Bandung.

From the bus stop in Cileunyi [where Primajasa bus drop you], an Angkot can bring you to the University, where the small road starts for Manglayang. From there, a motorbike taxi "Ojek" will bring you up to the trail gate for 15k, otherwise it's 2kms by foot

From the gate [1020m], go straight upward for about 1h, when you reach the last warung. At this point, you can stack on water, as there are no water later on the trail [If you have a poncho, you may capture rainwater, as this place is quite rainy]. A small trail is starting on the left, in front of the warung, crossing a small stream. Go up from the stream, beware the trail is pretty steep and slippery, until you reach Manglayang 1st summit at 1700m[2h]. This summit has good views, but is windy. On your right side, proceed North along the crest, and after 45min you reach Manglayang true summit at 1850m. The ground is quite flat, excellent for camping, but has no views.

From there, an option will be to go West to reach Batu Kuda, a suburb of Bandung with transports, local trekkers informed us there was a trail down to Batu Kuda, but I dont have the GPS route for this one.

Our loop is a getting a bit more difficult from Manglayang summit. To proceed, the day after for instance if you decide to camp and sleep there, there is a very small & difficult "trail" which goes down full North. It s very steep and dangerous, don't proceed if it's raining. You will at least need 1h to go down until you reach 1500m elevation. At this point, you should be in a bamboo forest, a good place for picnic.

On your right, a good trail is going down back to Cileunyi, it's an easy and pleasant trek through coffee plantations and bamboo forests. It will take you around 2h to reach back the entry gate. From there, you can stop ojeks going down to the University, to save you the pain of walking on the road.

On the trail, you will probably meet some hunters. Don't worry they are friendly, but their dogs can bark after you! They have a curious way on transporting them on a motorbike, see pictures.
