I've missed a flight twice in my life. Both times, because I went along with the wishes of my fellow travelers. Anyone who knows me knows that I am everywhere too early. I hate being late and see it as a waste of time of those who have to wait. I decided to be neurotic about the time to go to Schiphol early even though I had a place to stay in Amsterdam. I was not the only one, many travelers spend the night before departure at Schiphol.
The seats are soft enough for my buttocks not to get a wooden butt and to last for a long time. But lying on two chairs is not possible because of the armrests.
Another disturbing thing is the light. This is dimmed every so often and then made big again, making reading or sleeping difficult. Even when I sit there staring into space the light is midly annoying.
Everything except the Burger King closes at Schiphol between midnight and 4 a.m. I thought I could visit a store, forget it. Cleaning is done. All these measures are not only to discourage travelers from spending the night at Schiphol, but also to keep homeless people away. They also do this by sending people away who do not have a ticket for the next morning. Next time a hotel even if I have to check out at 4 am or take a later flight.
