I like the work of Hockney so it was not difficult to go to the exhibition in the van Gogh museum in 2018! I introduced myself to the work of Hockney in 2013 on my visit to the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao. On display was then his work of the nature of Yorkshire which he painted and filmed with 9 cameras in all the 4 seasons of the year. I was impressed!
I had been to the van Gogh museum on museum night sometime in the past and last year I went to Neunen. Neunen is one of the places where van Gogh was very productive in producing paintings. Most of the paintings of van Gogh in Neunen were about farm life.
Hockney and van Gogh both love nature. They even look at nature the same way:
They look at details
And see something special in ordinary landscape.
They both say:
That nature changes every day
They both liked to see the effect of the season on the landscape.
Hockney painted the same place in Yorkshire again and again in each season. Van Gogh did this in Arle. Both use a technique in their paintings which makes nature move on the paintings. There are a lot of similarities between how the two painters paint, but Hockney uses a lot of new techniques like filming the seasons and painting on an Ipad.
