Arnhem and surroundings are one of the best places to hike. It is a bit hilly and there is a lot of nature around Arnhem. Arnhem has two big parks in which there are hiking tracks ideal for a short walk in nature.
Park Sonsbeek is the big park of Arnhem near the station and center of Arnhem. There is a mill and a museum both can be visited and are on the Waterwandeling route. The hike takes about 1,5 hour and takes the hiker past all the water in the park. There are more things to see on the route. I hiked this route myself twice. it can be slippery when it has rained a lot. The route can be bought at Park Sonsbeek and the route is marked.
The route NS-Wandeling Warnsborn is 20 km and hilly. It starts at the Central station of Arnhem and ends at station Wolfheze. The route is almost all through nature after leaving park Sonsbeek. The route can be found for free on the NS website dagje uit. I hiked this route myself and it is worth the hike. The same things that are on the Waterwandeling route can be visited on this route. There are more interesting things to visit on this route. This route is also marked.
The route NS-wandeling Hemelse Berg is 16,5 km. There are a few steep parts on the route. It starts at the station of Oosterbeek and goes through another part of the surrounding than NS-wandeling Warnsborn to the end point Arnhem Central Station. On this route there is almost nothing then nature, bring enough water and food. I hiked the whole route. This route is also marked and can be found on the NS website dagje uit.
