Do you want to know what you'll be doing? Where to park? What to bring? Here are some answers for you!
If these pages doesn't answer your questions, please email the Race Director at ghosttrainrace@gmail.com. All questions are welcome! (As long as they are related to the race - I can't do your teenagers math homework. Sorry!) Thank you!
You know the answer to this one! Really, I'm sure you do!
YOUR SMILE!
Bring a smile, a super positive attitude, a desire to have fun, kindness, and a willingness to help everyone out and you'll have a great time!
Don't forget that chatting with the runners, encouragement, and being there for them even with just that smile makes a huge difference. If you're doing this you may feel like you're not working all that hard, but you are helping runners, their outlook, and their race experience in a major way. Keep that stuff up!
Oh, and read the rest of this. You may want to bring some things like warm clothes too. 😃
Ghost Train has been "running" (get it!) since 2009, and raised about $285,000 for the Brookline and Milford trails in that time. This money has gone towards trail improvements, maintenance, and fixing issues that suddenly come up like the washout of the Milford section of the trail about 1/2 mile north of the new tunnel in 2024.
There are currently five races that occur over Ghost Train weekend. You will be able to tell which race each runner is running by the color of their bib. (See PDF below) A copy of the guide will be available at each aid station.
All volunteers will get an email from an area Captain and/or the Race Director if you have signed up by the week before the race. IF YOU DON'T RECEIVE THAT EMAIL - check your spam, check your email address in the volunteer signup, and/or reach out to RD Rob at ghosttrainrace@gmail.com. If your email is wrong, we really don't know how to get ahold of you. Sorry!! It isn't that we don't love you, we just don't have much recourse. Thanks for understanding!
You're welcome to check out the Ghost Train Handbook if you'd like to know more details about the races. The handbook for the 30-Hour Ultramarathon and Relay is probably the most applicable for bike patrol. The other two handbooks have a more limited set of information that is applicable to the remaining races.
