This is an exciting volunteer position and it will require someone with a positive outlook, who is motivational, and able to keep track of details. What is the Timing Assistant Table you ask? This is an opportunity to check in with each runner on the 30-Hour Ultramarathon course each time they come through:
Cheer and encourage the runners to go out for another loop.
If the runner is really done, congratulate them! Reinforce what a great day it was and complement them on a job well done.
Hand out finisher awards to the runner and thank them for being there. Remind them that all proceeds from the race go directly to the Brookline and Milford Conservation Commissions for trail improvements.
Write year and distances run on the famous ghost or train ornaments.
Keep a tally of who is on the trail, who is done, and who is possibly coming back (or has come back and is going out for more). This way we know how many runners are on the trail at all times. (Kinda important for safety and all!)
The volunteers at this location get a prime seat to see runners finish the race, hear some amazing stories, and help the RD handing out railroad spikes and other finisher items.
Volunteer check in: Please check in with the timing assistant table near the timing tent, or with the aid station at Camp Tevya.
