Hello Ghost Train Waitlisters!
I thought I would send a separate email to everyone on the waitlists this year. I’ve received several questions lately, and I thought I’d try to give a quick summary. I have sent an email to those currently registered for the race, and you can read it (and all the other emails from 2023 and 2024) on our web site.
30-Mile Haunted Night Race
If you are on this waitlist, there are only 15 people on the list, and I can virtually guarantee that everyone currently on it will get in. You’re done, you don’t have to keep reading this email unless you want to.
30-Hour Ultramarathon
This is the big waiting list with all the questions! Here is a quick FAQ:
Where am I on the list?
You can check any time! Go to the registration page, click on Waitlist, and then click on 30-Hour Ultramarathon. That last part is important as USU defaults to the night race.
(Link to the 30-Hour Ultramarathon Waitlist if you want it)
How many are currently on the list?
As of Sept 2, around 2pm there are 180 people on the list.
What is the process if I’m selected?
You will receive an email inviting you into the race. Please accept or decline this email in a reasonable period, and even faster if it is close to the cutoff.
How many have you let in?
I don’t keep track, but I’m probably processing between 6 and 10 drops a week right now. Another unknown is how many accept the invite vs. decline it. Sometimes 5 drops can mean 10 people off the waitlist if ½ decline. Sometimes it is only 5 off the waitlist. As you can see, this isn’t an exact science.
When is the cutoff to get into the race?
October 12th at noon. No changes to the field will be made after that time.
Will I get in?
It depends. Honestly, I posted on the registration page before registration opened that I thought we wouldn’t clear the waitlist. For those who’d like to do the math – we have 5 ½ weeks, and even if we get 10 people in per week…. Well, you get the idea. Again, the big unknown is how many people are on the waitlist but who won’t accept the invite. However, if you are in the later part of the waitlist, I’m not optimistic. (Sorry!)
What if I don’t get in?
Please consider joining us next year! I will send an email announcing registration to everyone who was signed up or waitlisted in 2024 and it will be posted in our Facebook group. We’d love to have you as a volunteer if that works – we can’t put on this race without plenty of support for our runners! You can learn more on our website. Plenty of people would love to have a pacer, so if you don’t get in maybe come by and see if anyone would like some company, or post on our Facebook group asking if someone wants company.
If I didn’t answer your question, drop me an email! (Reply to this one)
Thanks, and I do hope we see you all in October!
