Gerardo Flores obtained his BSc in Electrical Engineering from the National Technological Institute of Mexico, his Master of Automatic Control from the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico City, and his Ph.D. in Information and Systems Technology from the Université de Technologie de Compiègne, France, in 2007, 2010, and 2014, respectively. From 2014 to 2016, he was a postdoctoral associate at the French-Mexican Laboratory of Informatics and Automatic Control.
Since August 2024, Gerardo Flores has served as an Associate Professor in the School of Engineering at the College of Arts and Sciences, Texas A&M International University, where he is also the founder and director of the RAPTOR Lab (Robotics and Autonomous Platforms for Technology Operations and Research). From October 2023 to August 2024, he was a visiting faculty member at the Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Texas at Dallas, collaborating with Prof. Mark W. Spong in the Department of Systems Engineering. In 2016, he founded and directed the Laboratorio de Percepción y Robótica (LAPyR) at the Center for Research in Optics in León, Guanajuato, Mexico.
Dr. Flores has an accomplished research portfolio, with approximately 100 publications in esteemed international journals and conferences. He holds positions as an Associate Editor for IEEE Access, Scientific Reports, and PLoS ONE, and serves as Guest Editor for Robotics, Aerospace, and IFAC Mechatronics. He is also on the editorial boards of the International Conference on Unmanned Aircraft Systems (ICUAS) and the IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE). Additionally, he is an active member of the IFAC Technical Committee on Mechatronic Systems [TC4.2]. Since 2024, Dr. Flores has been recognized as an IEEE Senior Member and is a regular member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences.
Gerardo's research is in the area of theory and applications of dynamical systems, nonlinear control, vision systems and modeling and control of hybrid unmanned aerial vehicles. For a more detailed description, please see the Research section.
