1803 – First British settlement at Risdon Cove (Hobart), comprising convicts, free settlers and members of NSW Corps
1804 – Settlement established at Outer Cove (Georgetown) on Port Dalrymple (Tamar River)
1806 – Settlement moved from Georgetown to Launceston
Port Dalrymple was collective name for this area from 1803 – 1853.
Until 1818, most convicts arrived from Sydney, as secondary convictions. The first direct transport from Britain was in 1811.
