We've combined Australia and New Zealand under this broad heading, as so much of our early history is intertwined, with 19th century migrant ships and whalers often sailing to both countries.
There was also a large amount of travel in both directions between Australia and New Zealand, with immigrants reaching Australia via New Zealand and vice versa, plus merchants, farmers and other early settlers travelled regularly between the two countries.
Additionally, New Zealand was an intermediate port for North American migration, particularly during the gold rushes of the mid 19th century.
Therefore, it's worthwhile not to limit your research to Australia only (or a single state) or New Zealand only!
