All -- Review syllabus

J2 assignments 8/23-8/27 -- Create folders on the P drive for all staff. Create notes for your chapters that you will teach. Create Trojournal first issue blank pages (with stories listed on the pages), including any font size and style shortcuts we might need -- body text, headline, caption, etc. Write your stories.

J1 Assignments

Wednesday, 8-17

All students -- See Trojournal masthead on computer projector. What job do you want? Look here for labor divisions if you need an explanation of duties.

J1-- Discuss interviewing with focus on writing interview questions. Read ch. 5, Interviewing. HW: Prepare for quiz on ch. 5.

Friday, 8-19

J1 - Introduce personal publications. Take quiz on ch. 5. Discuss straight news leads and inverted pyramid style and discuss feature leads. HW:

Other homework: Read ch. 3, What is News and ch. 6, News Story Basics. Do your interviews.

Monday, 8-22

Lindsey in for Homecoming interview. (Homecoming is on Sept. 23, and we'll update and use this story for The Trojournal.)

Friday, 8-27 HW: Work on Homecoming story, do interviews.

Monday, 8-30 * Homecoming story due. Open to work on stories. Introduce InDesign.

Wednesday, 9-1 * Story 1 due for first story deadline. Elizabeth Reece will present notes for ch. 3 and ch. 6. Introduce our electronic filing system for stories.

*Study for quzzes 3 and 6.

Friday, 9-3 Finish discussion; then monitor Quiz ch. 3 and 6 for J1 students. Elizabeth in charge - Intro wiki basics - also Elizabeth

All students: Have your stories ready for me to look at this weekend. Put them in the proper folder.

Marissa - copy September stories to your flash drive and bring them home.

Wednesday, 9-8 Revise stories that Elizabeth has edited and put in the Sept. folder. Turn in the next story. Ch. 7 instruction postponed until Friday.

Friday, 9-23 Fold and distribute Trojournal

Wednesday, 10-13 Edit and correct all stories except sports. Remind students to put headline on story.

Friday, 10-15 All final versions of stories due and in "ready to place."

Monday, 10-18 NO School

Tuesday, 10-19 MR. MAC GONE TO LEAGUE MEETING - EMAIL FOOTBALL (DAKOTA) AND XC (Aubrey) TO ME BEFORE TUESDAY; E-MAIL VOLLEYBALL (MCKENZIE) STORY TO ME TUESDAY EVENING. VAUGHN GONE TO NATURAL HELPERS.

Proofread and put final touches -- captions, headlines, and corrections, and layout tweaks -- on Trojournal

Thursday, 10-21 Final proofreading and correcting of multiples that include sports

Friday, 10-22 Distribute Trojournal during lunch.

Write straight news story from fact sheet about homecoming. Use a straight news lead with punch. Put the most important details in the beginning. Then go to chronological order to tell details of upcoming events for Homecoming evening -- crowning, game, dance. Then continue with past homecoming week activities such as Spirit Week. Due Monday.

Write and turn in questions for one of your stories.
