  • 2025 Events - Meetings are held on the third Sunday of most months,  1pm, Newfield Fire Hall, 77 Main Street, New York, unless another location is listed.

  • January 19, Learning and playing one of Finland's most popular card games - Ristiseiska (Club Seven)

  • February 16, Building a Boat Sauna by Rob Licht of Rob Licht Custom Saunas 

  • March  16, The Annual Finnish Trivia event, created by Master of Ceremonies Rod Sunderlin.

  • April 27, Bobbin Lace - Presentation on the history of bobbin lace in Europe and how the art took hold in her hometown of Rauma, Finland. By Maija DeRoche with a hands-on demonstration.

  • May 18,  Eero Kilpi on "Sauna Lost in Translation: Restoring Finnishness to a Global Tradition"  Funded in part by Tompkins County Toursim and the National Finlandia Foundation.

  • June 21, Juhannus at Keturi’s Green Acres. Saturday (not a 3rd Sunday) dish-to-share meal, awards to 2024 scholarship winners, outdoor games, music

  • July 20, Picnic at North Van Etten Church  1pm dish-to-share lunch, music

  • August, No meeting

  • September 21, Public dance with popular Trumansburg band TOIVO with traditional Finnish dance music and swing, country, and blues  

  • October 19, Travels in Finland, Ristiing Wigg 

  • November 16, Thanksgiving Dinner and Annual Meeting

December 21, 1pm dish-to-share ham lunch, brief business meeting, followed by optional gift exchange, craft activities, perhaps music.  


The map of Finland will be back with pins so you can mark where your Finnish ancestors are from. See other families came from!

  • We all love to meet new people. Bring friends or family members. Everyone is welcome!

  • Interested in Finnish and Nordic cultures? Members of the community at large are always welcome at our events. Just show up!

 

Please Bring 

  • Ham will be provided for all. Bring a generous side dish or dessert to share and a serving utensil if appropriate. It is helpful if you label your dish and include a list of ingredients

  • Coffee provided 

  • Also, help us reduce waste by bringing your own place setting and coffee mug

  • Some cash for the donation gourds donation and for raffle tickets would be appreciated

The Finger Lakes Finns is a New York State 501(c)3, not-for-profit, charitable organization or club, dedicated to the heritage of Finnish-Americans in the southern Finger Lakes region including the rural areas around Spencer, Van Etten, Newfield, Ithaca, Danby, Trumansburg, and Interlaken.

Membership dues: Annual dues are ten dollars ($10) per year/individual, payable to "Finger Lakes Finns" and sent to the FLF Membership Registrar. Payment may be made at any time during the year, but covers membership only for the remainder of that calendar year. Membership year begins in January. Members joining during November or December extend membership for the next full year.
