If you have normal carbon resistor HT leads , I would recommend that you change your resistor spark plugs for non resistor type .
For example if you use NGK BPR5ES change them for BP5ES .
In fact even better would be to use the smaller hex non resistor spark plug ; NGK BCP5ES as per article below ;
SPARK PLUG SOCKET SIZE ;
I would recommend changing the plugs to the smaller hex plug socket size {10mm} as it makes removal easier at cylinder numbers 1 and 2 at the distributor .
For example , if you have the " Normal " type NGK spark plug number BP5ES , change them for BCP5ES where C signifies that it has the smaller hex .
..........................................
A "Normal" plug for the Reliant has a 14mm thread diameter going into the head and the socket size is 21mm ;
This uses the 14mm spark plug removal tool /socket
...........................................
The Smaller head size spark plug also has a 14mm thread diameter going into the head but the socket size is 16mm { 5/8 inch }.
This uses the 10mm spark plug removal tool /socket
To sum up ;
"Normal" spark plugs need a 14mm spark plug removal tool /socket
"Small Hex" spark plugs need a 10mm spark plug removal tool /socket
