ALTERNATOR Lucas 18 ACR / part number LRA100/LRA103

45 amps output / 12volts and is a straight replacement for Lucas 15/16/17 ACR alternators .

{ These alternators are the earlier type with the bulbous black plastic nose which sits closer to the exhaust pipe and can sometimes suffer from heat }

{ High output, uprated to 70amp,(from 45 and 55amp) alternator as used on late model single point fuel injected Minis. We guess it took that much juice to drive all those electronics,but now you can load as many extras on as you like. This is the 22mm size diameter shaft with allen key hole in end which fastens the pulleys. It has pulley and fan fitted. These are new and are purchased outright without any surcharges and will replace the A115 45amp type fitted in 1980-85 also. }

IGNITION WARNING LAMP

BULB LIT

The IGNITION WARNING LAMP is connected by a WHITE wire from the Ignition side supplying power to one side of the bulb when the ignition is switched on .

The wire from the other side of the bulb is BROWN / YELLOW and goes to the ALTERNATOR where it EARTHS OUT when the IGNITION is ON but the ENGINE is OFF and this causes the BULB to LIGHT . .

This CURRENT FLOW also stimulates the alternator to start charging.

BULB NOT LIT

When the ENGINE is RUNNING the ALTERNATOR now puts +12v through the BROWN / YELLOW wire to the lamp.

As the lamp is now receiving +12v from both directions it cannot light.

BULB GLOWS A LITTLE WHEN ENGINE RUNNING

If your charging circuit is not quite right that is why the lamp glows a little because there is not quite the same voltage on either side of the lamp.

{ We have introduced a new alternator which is dimensionally the same as the Lucas A127 version .

The difference is that this is uprated to 75 Amps and has both the Lucas 3-pin blade connector AND screw terminal connectors.

This makes it simple to add an extra output cable to the battery to handle the extra available current safely.

We are selling quite a number of these to people who are restoring / uprating collectable cars. }
