Coach Canterbury

Sergeant First Class Scott E. Canterbury is a 19 year veteran of the US Army and the Virginia Army National Guard. SFC. Canterbury met Ian Marshall through Personal Development presentations in local public schools, he started training with Dr. Marshall in 2004. The two shared ideas on presentations and personal training.

Inspired by Dr. Marshall, he started training in the U.S. Army’s Martial Arts Program called Modern Army Combatives Program (MACP)

Canterbury competed in his first Combatives tournament winning the heavyweight division while going undefeated.

In 2008 Canterbury reunited with Dr. Marshall and began training in Mixed Martial Arts. By 2009 he was the #4 ranked Light Heavyweight fighter in the Global Combat Alliance (GCA). In Canterbury’s first two fights he won the Fastest Finish honors knocking out both of his opponents in a combined 70 seconds.

Canterbury is recognized as a Level IV Certified Tactical Combatives Instructor for the Military Combatives Association (MCA). Canterbury was promoted to the rank of Sankyu, Brown Belt in Ju Jitsu through the Midori Yama Budokai (MYB).

At Karate College 2014, Dr. Marshall and Mr. Buckland promoted Canterbury to the rank of 1st Degree Black Belt in FEARS MMA. In 2015 Canterbury was awarded an instructors certificate. Making him the first certified FEARS instructor. Canterbury has assisted in training and certification of thousands of military recruits and soldiers.
