1915: News Article, Chester-le-Street Chronicle (24th September): "A full license was granted to the new Ferryboat Inn, Fatfield, a provisional licence having been in force for some time while the new premises was being erected. The application was made by Mr Hargreaves on behalf of Mr Todd."

The Ferry Boat Inn was located on the riverside in Chatershaugh just east and down-river of where the modern-day Chatershaugh bridge carries the A182 Washington Highway. It is a very old pub but was re-built in brick c.1900. Below is are two pictures of the inn, the first being of the old inn, the second shows the "new" inn. It is believed that the sign above the door on the new building was retained from the old.
