9/28/2014 13 Reasons Why Jay Asher, 2007

Once I picked up this book there was no way I was going to put it down. It kept you guessing about what would happen. It's about a girl who commits suicide but

leaves tapes behind to the people that had some sort of meaning to her death. This book kept me on the edge; it made me cry, laugh, and smile. The book is full

of joy, happiness, sorrow, anger, hatred, and most of all friendship. It really tugs on the heartstrings a little bit and was very intriguing. I would highly recommend

this book to anyone who loves a good suspenseful book that'll keep you on the edge of your seat and who wouldn't mind shedding a tear or two.

1/30/2012 44 Jools Sinclair, 2011

44 is one of those books that hooks you into it from the very first sentence. The book is a constant thrill to read with plenty of twists and turns through out the pages

of the story. If you like mystery stories with hints of both horror and romance then you will love this book. Not only is the story great, but you also grow attached to

the characters, so much so that you feel like they're real. Also, if you like music, the author also has amazing taste in music! She mentions artists like Josh Ritter

and Ray Lamontagne. Honestly, the book, being only 158 pages long, is way to short for such an amazing story. The book is also the first part of a trilogy, the third

book will be coming out soon, which means that if you like the book, then there is more to read. All in all, I loved this book, and I recommend anybody who likes a

good mystery should also check it out. There are some graphic violence segments in the book.

1/10/2018 A Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time Mark Haddon, 2003

This book is very well written and definitely one of my favorites. Reading isn’t my favorite thing so when I do find a book i actually enjoy, I like to keep and remember

it the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is one of those books. The way the author makes the narrative through the eyes of a teenage boy with Aspergers

is incredible and does a great job with it. This is a mystery book that has a lot of surprises that'll definitely make you want to keep reading. Christopher just wants to

figure out who murdered his neighbors dog but he find out way more than he expected. At first he wants to get the blame off of him because he found the dog dead

and was holding but then the neighbor came out and thought he did it so she called the cops. He wanted justice for the dog, but then somehow his family got involved

and he learned many things he didn’t know about his parents. Christopher’s parents had split and his dad told Christopher she was dead, but he gets some news along

the way about that.

2/3/2016 Amber House Kelly Moore, Larkin Reed, and Tucker Reed, 2012

Amber House is a beautiful book! It is a good mystery, but it is also has a little romance intertwined with a hint of the supernatural. It is definitely a fun, easy book

that you can get lost in. It describes the lavish setting in beautiful detail. A major part of the story is Sarah’s Sixteenth birthday masquerade ball (which is almost

every girl’s dream). The description is so vivid that you can imagine being right there with her. The characters have dreams and visions of the past which allows

the reader to peek into the history of the house and the lives of those who lived there through the years. I loved that aspect of the story. It is a part of a trilogy, but

the third book has not been released yet. Overall, it is a great read and I recommend it to everyone.

1/8/2019 And Then There Were None Agatha Christie, 1939

And Then There Were None is a great book for anyone who loves a great mystery. It is about ten people who were lured to a deserted island by a strange man

who none of them knew. One by one they all began to get murdered. Throughout the story they are all trying to figure out who the true killer is until there is only

one person left. This book was very well written and I couldn't put it down until i knew who the murderer was. It kept me guessing and questioning each of the

characters. The first 40 pages really just introduces the characters, but once you get passed that it truly had me on the edge of my seat until the very last page.

Overall, this is one of my most favorite books that I have ever read and i would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good page turner.

2/16/2016 And Then There Were None Agatha Christie, 1939

I really enjoyed this book. It kept me guessing until the very end. It’s about ten people who take a vacation on an island, but they all have something in common.

They’ve all committed some type of serious crime. One by one they all end up dead. As the numbers of people start to dwindle, fingers are pointed at one another

as they try to pinpoint who is the murderer. Just when you think you know who it is, they end up dead. It’s a fascinating page turner, and I couldn’t put it down until

I knew who the murderer was.

1/10/2018 The Broker John Grisham, 2005

The broker is a book that has a suspenseful story line. John Grisham describes each character and

includes a brief but descriptive history of each. The book is well paced as there was always action that keeps you engaged with the plot. The broker does have parts

at the beginning that moves slowly but it picks up. Will Backman bounce back or will he completely disappear, and what will happen to Neptune? I would recommend

this book to people who like books about spies and the FBI.

5/29/2013 Choker Elizabeth Woods, 2011

I would recommend this book to all of those who find a great interest in mystery books. This short read is a complete page-turner from the beginning all the way until

page two-hundred and thirty-three! Choker is one of the many great books I have read this school year which is as well written by Elizabeth Woods who is one of my

favorite authors. I can't think of any reason to not recommend this book to anyone other than the slightly horrific descriptions of a few kidnappings and murders.

Overall this is an amazing book that seems so unbelievably realistic and made me often gasp aloud. The ending is so very shocking that my jaw dropped and if you

read it I'm sure you'll be amazed too!

2/5/2016 Cover-Up John Feinstein, 2007

This book is a great book if you love sports. Cover-Up is a mystery type of book. It has a very mysterious plot twist that haves you skeptical about what else is gonna

happen. This is book is about a team trying to cheat it's way to win the super bowl. This book is mostly s football book but however it gives you reasons why sports is

a good thing to play and how sports can teach you life lesson. I would give this book a 3 star rating and recommend it to you.

1/8/2019 The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time Mark Haddon, 2003

The curious incident of the dog in the night-time is a very interesting book due to the way the main character thinks and expresses himself throughout the novel.

Christopher Boone is young boy who is mentally challenged but extremely smart, knowing all the countries and their capitals and knowing all the prime numbers

up to 7,057, does not relate to people as much as he relates to animals, can not stand to be touched, and hates the color yellow. As well as the inability to

understand human emotions. With in the novel Christopher finds his neighbor's dog murdered in the middle of the night. And spends the whole novel trying to solve

the mystery. In the end things take a sharp turn and he finds out that his dad lied to him about his mother, his dad told him she was dead, and finds his mother. I

personally loved this novel and will reread it any time.

4/25/2012 Daddy's Little Girl Mary Higgins Clark, 2003

Mary Higgins Clark is famous for her mystery novels and she wows us again in this one. At the age of

seven Ellie Cavanaugh discovers the murdered body of her fifth teen year old sister. At the age of thirty Ellie hears that her sisters killer is going to be released and she

will do anything to stop it. This book is filled with twist an turns and will keep you on the edge of your seat. The story is very suspenseful with danger lurking all around

trying to keep Ellie from finding out the truth about her sisters murder. If you don't like hearing about deaths or upsetting/ suspenseful stories this isn't for you.

1/10/2018 Death On The Nile Agatha Christie, 1937

This book may be over 80 years old but despite its age it is still a real page-turner. Many of these book reviews on Mrs. Escoffier’s Book Nook are just complimenting

a book even if the reviewer didn’t like it very much. In contrast, my review is completely honest and this book is truly a must-read. The beginning was slow and confusing

because many characters were introduced within a short time span, but it quickly became exciting as the book went on. It’s easy to read and, except for the first chapter,

is not boring at all. Throughout the book, there are multiple murders and anyone on the boat could have been guilty. For this reason, the book will definitely keep you on

the edge of your seat throughout the entire read. Finally, this book really plays on your emotions.

9/28/2014 Draw the Dark Ilsa J. Bick, 2011

Draw the Dark is a great mysterious book to read, especially if you are interested in art or psychology. It starts with a troubled teenage boy, named Christian, who is

a social outcast in his small hometown of Winter, Wisconsin. He has a passion for drawing things, even in his sleep. One day he is called out of class in school by his

principal and the sheriff. They both claim that he vandalized an old WWII era barn in the rural part of his town. He is then punished by having to repaint the barn and

volunteer at an assisted living facility for the elderly, where he meets an old Jewish man. He helps Christian discover himself and later dies in the story, but leaves

behind a legacy for the small town of Winter. This is a very interesting book and is quite suspenseful. I'll leave you to find out what happens in the novel.

1/10/2018 Early Autumn Robert B. Parker, 1980

If you love to read books about detective work and mysteries, you need to check Early Autumn out. This book was definitely out of my comfort zone but once I read

past the first couple of chapters, I was captivated. The way the plot twisted and how the characters evolved was unpredictable but it played out very well. For example,

when Spenser (who is the detective/bodyguard) decides to try and get custody of Paul (the young boy in between his feuding parents who don't seem to care about

him) and they both try and dig up dirt on both parents to have something against the both of them if they take Spenser to court. It got intense in some parts and it had

a lot of violence in it. Also, there is vulgar language in this if you're the type of person that doesn't like that. It's also a moderate paced book and it doesn't get to the

really good parts until about half way through it. I highly recommend that you read this and I can guarantee you won't be disappointed.

1/30/2012 Flawless: A Pretty Little Liars Novel Sara Shepard 2007 Mystery

This book is the second entailment in the Prey Little Liars saga. This story follows the life of Hanna Marin, Aria Montgomery, Emily Fields, and Spencer Hastings as

they live their ""normal everyday lives' in Rosewood, Pennsylvania. In this book the four girls are still trying to cope with the murder of Alison DiLaurentis, and they

continue to be harassed by the anonymous person who calls itself 'A'. A holds the key to revealing all of the girls secrets; whether its stealing your sister's boy friend,

secretly dating you high school English teacher, or feeling 'that way' about another girl. They are trying to find ways that A doesn't find about a way to expose their

inner feelings, or worse, an even bigger secret about their best friend Alison's murder. *** This book is a little mature so if you're not into passionate, secret

relationships, lying, or death... then this book is not for you.

9/28/2014 Gone Girl Gillian Flynn, 2012

I recommend the book Gone Girl because it’s very mysterious and keeps you wondering. It’s about a couple who have been married for five years and on their

anniversary the wife Amy disappears. This book will play with your emotions about what happened to Amy and also your feelings on the characters themselves.

Many say Nick killed her (Amy’s husband) others think it’s his dad. Nick is betrayed as weak and gets others to do his dirty work for him. But Amy and Nick’s

marriage relationship will come out and you will find out who both of them really are. Many hate nick at the beginning of the book and feels bad for Amy but as you

keep ready your mind with change about these characters mostly Amy. If you’re into crime mysteries then this is defiantly the book for you and you should give it a

try and read it.

1/30/2012 Invisible I Stella Lennon, 2009

I would recommend this book because it is very interesting. It is a mystery book that keeps you guessing until the end. There are some mystery books in which the

reader knows information that the character(s) do not. In this book, however, the reader is just as clueless as the characters for the majority of the book. It is the first

of a series;therefore, it is expected that some questions are left unanswered. The ending of this book does a great job of making you want to continue reading the

series and solve the many mysteries it contains.

9/28/2014 I Am Not a Serial Killer Dan Wells, 2010

I Am Not a Serial Killer by Dan Wells is an amazing book. The book starts off with "Mrs. Anderson was dead." So by that sentence you can already tell the tone of

the story is murder. But the book isn't just murder there's little jokes and fun. The main character is John Wayne Cleaver he's a teenager who's very dangerous and

he knows just how dangerous he is. John is obsessed with serial killers and has been his whole life, in fact he's named after one. Now john isn't an ordinary kid. He

has all the identifiers of being a psychopath, he can't feel emotions or make human connections. He doesn't want to become a serial killer so in order for him to keep

away from that life he lives by a strict code for life. Johns family owns a morgue and he works in there with his mom sometimes and it's a healthy outlet for his needs.

This book follows a kids path to saving the people who need a cold emotionless killer to save them. John Wayne Cleaver is just the man you want hunting down a

serial killer in your town. This book knows how to get into your sole and find your deepest fears and pull them out and make them vulnerable. You will be too scared

to even move without the fear of someone killing you. By the end of the series the reader will be terrified to their very core. They will never want to close their eyes

for they know the nightmares will take them over.

1/8/2019 I am the Messenger Marcus Zusak, 2002

The book “I am the Messenger” encompasses all the great qualities of a good book. From the very first page, this book sucks the reader into its own world, in which

the main character, Ed, completes a series of challenging and mysterious tasks, based on the morality of the situation. The book makes the reader think about the

ethics of good deeds, as well as providing an interesting plot and setting for the story. Reading this book was one of the best experiences of my life, and allowed me

to escape into its own little world. My only criticism is that I wish the book was longer, so I could prolong my reading experience. The book had me wishing the ending

would not be resolved, so that the story would continue longer, or in a separate book. “I am the Messenger” is a quality book, and any reader is bound to enjoy it

thoroughly.

9/29/2014 To Kill A Mockingbird Harper Lee, 1960

To Kill A Mockingbird is one of my favorite books because of the setting. I love the historical south. The time of slavery and controversy is very interesting to me.

Another thing I like about this book is the message. I think it teaches a very good lesson. Why kill something that never harmed you? A.K.A. a mockingbird. Someone

who did not even kill a fly got accused and eventually killed. Just because of his race, he wasn't given the right treatment or thought. This time held a lot of discrimination

because of race. If you like historical books, or slavery books then you definitely need to try this great read. I think that everyone should read To Kill A Mockingbird at

least once in their life. I think it's a great book that makes you think. You will definitely have a different perspective after reading it.

To kill a mockingbird was one of my favorite books I have ever read. I recommend this book to anyone that wants a good read. The topic of racism in this book shows

how it was in the 30's and 40's in Alabama. The problems in the world when this books was released still has a significant meaning today. This is one of those books

9/29/2014 On The Street Where You Live Mary Higgins Clark, 2001

The story takes place in New Jersey. A young attorney named Emily Graham, who bought her family’s old house. When she buys the house she has a swimming pool

getting built in her backyard and finds two sets of female bones that are somehow connected despite being 100 years apart. When she tries to find out the truth between

her family and the victims she provokes a sadistic killer who plans on her to be next. It is a very strong mystery story and I recommend it very much! It is also part

suspense, which makes the “fuller”. The book is relatively new so it has more modern elements so you can connect with it more. In the book you see nothing coming

until the end where everything comes together and all the mini plots get straighten out. This is a strong book made by Mary Higgins Clark and you should definitely

read it if you enjoy thrillers and mystery suspense novels.

5/2/2012 One for the Money Janet Evanovich, 1994

If you enjoy comedy and criminal mystery as well as slight romantic tensions all rolled into one book, you will love this book! Seriously, it has everything. It's got an

adorable hamster who's owner is barely scraping by (Stephanie Plum) who has just taken up a job as a bounty hunter, a crazy granny (Grandma Mazur. If you read

this book, she will be one of your favorite characters), a cop on the run from the law, a psycho boxer obsessed with Stephanie (not in a good way if I may add), an

awesome bounty hunter named Ranger (Steph tends to describe him as being like batman) and dead bodies cropping up at every turn. Add in Lula for comic relief

and a love hate relationship between Stephanie and Morelli (who she is actually supposed to be trying to capture) and you have the recipe for a perfect book. Note:

there are many sexual innuendos as well as graphic and very colorful language and violence in this book so if that makes you uncomfortable, do not read. Basically,

it is a very mature read.

1/10/2018 One of Us Is Lying Karen M. McManus, 2017

This murder mystery is your typical high school story with a twist. An athlete, a rebel, a bookworm, an outsider, and the homecoming queen all go into detention one

day after school. However, only four of them make it out alive. Simon, the outsider, was murdered but no one knows by who. Under the devastating circumstances new

and unlikely friendships are formed, and the surviving students attempt to discover the murderer. Not only do these students have to try and discover the murderer, they

have to dodge the accusations from the police and the reactions to the negative stories appearing on dead Simon’s gossip website. The author provides a thrilling story

that never fails to make you second guess yourself. Multiple plot twists cause you to think, because every character could be the murderer. This story shows that people

may not always be who they say they are. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a mystery with a little bit of drama.

1/9/2019 Paper Towns John Green, 2008

I recommend this novel because it is an adventure and a mystery in one. Award-winning author, John Green, is a very talented writer, and his way with words will

pull you in and leave you wanting more. Paper Towns is about Quentin Jacobsen, a high school band kid, who has an infatuation with his next door neighbor, who

is also one of the most popular girls at school, Margo Roth Spiegelman. A few weeks before graduation, Margo runs away, leading Quentin to believe that she wants

him to follow the clues she left behind and find her. He sets off on an mysterious adventure with his best friends to find the runaway girl. This book portrays the idea

that people may not be who you thought they would be, and things may not be what you think they are. This message is important because it allows you to see

things from different perspectives, not just the one you always see.

Margo and her motive throughout the entire story. Margo runs away the day after her and Quentin go on a crazy adventure in the middle of the night in his mom’s

minivan. This book is a very good read. It is exciting with some adventure and mystery. It changes your view on a few details of life and I also felt that this book went

9/29/2014 Paper Towns John Green, 2008

I took the time to read the novel Paper Towns by John Green. Let me tell you now, it was definitely not a waste of time. I read it nonstop when i was on a plane ride

from Montana to Florida. I definitely did not want to put it down. Right from the beginning of the book, you will be hooked on Margo's personality and how compatible

she is with others. She's said to be beautiful, but not just because of her looks, but also her personality and outlook on life. All of the other characters were very

believable as well, which i really enjoyed. Each chapter the audience is introduced to new characters, which i found to be a little annoying. This was important though,

because it always left me wanting to know what Margo would encounter next. This book was definitely written for teens, but would be a good read for a person of any

age, because it includes romance, drama, and overall kindness. I cried in many parts of this book; out of happiness, sadness, and just being overwhelmed. I would

totally recommend this book to a student of my age or a person of any age for that matter.

1/8/2019 The Prestige Christopher Priest, 1995

This book is one of the finest thrillers I've ever read. Set in Elizabethan England, the theme of the story is all about misdirection and it'll have you thinking you’ve

got everybody all figured out until suddenly the plot takes a sharp turn; this will leave you rattled because nothing in the novel's as it seems. It is written in five

parts - each part is the diary or journal of one of the characters, so you'll definitely have a chance to read and understand the perspective of each one. This

masterpiece chronicles the bitter feud between two of England’s finest stage magicians, their captivating performances, and the sparking rivalry that drives them

to sabotage each other’s careers. The story is centered around the art of deception, and its protagonists are the very authority on it - they literally carry their secrets

to the grave, uncovered only through some weird and dubious science. Since the novel features both of the protagonists' diaries, the decision of which one is the

real villain is up to you. If you're fascinated by the fine line between science and magic, and you can appreciate the dazzling effect of a simple magic trick, then

this book is a shoo-in.

If you're looking for a good mystery book, Six Months Later is the winner. When I read the first chapter, I couldn't put the book down. Six Months Later has that effect

to where you're on the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens next. The story is about an average girl who falls asleep in study hall and wakes up to a whole

different time period. There are a lot of twists in this story as well as a couple of thrilling moments. In this book, you tend to question yourself at the end of each chapter,

being in desperate need of the answer. You'll start to wonder who is really the good guy and who is the bad guy.

This book was a fantastic mystery/comedy novel that combined the bad streets of Boston with a hardened detective whose experienced crime. The main character

goes on a journey to uncover the murder of a young and innocent woman. This book had me hooked. I don't remember a time when I didn't think about what would

happen next! The book is riddled with suspense and flawlessly follows sequence of events. This was a truly entertaining book, as well as a surprising one. The plot

twist was the biggest factor of the book. You would have never guessed what happened. The character was intimidating and stood up to the challenge even if he

was out of luck or outnumbered. Throughout the book, more detail and information was revealed about the backstory of the detective, making him an engrossing

character. I strongly recommend this book to those who enjoy suspense, action, and a little bit of comedy.

1/8/2019 This Is Where It Ends Marieke Nijkamp, 2016

I really enjoyed This Is Where It Ends because it is a fictional mystery about a school shooting that occurs in a small town like our own. It is told from the point of

view of the students inside the auditorium where the shooting takes place. The whole book is about how the faculty and students felt when they heard the first gun

shot and saw the principal laying on the stage lifeless with blood streaming from her chest. It tells the story from the time that they get locked in until they are freed

by classmates that ditched the assembly. The book has flashbacks from the main characters and it talks about their lives and how it has affected at this time. I

strongly recommend this book because it makes you feel happy, sad, and nervous all at the same time, it makes you not want to stop reading it.

This book is not like your average mystery book. It takes place in a 3rd world country and in a landfill. What I enjoy about this book is the perspective. The book's

story is told through the eyes of 3 landfill boys. It is a refreshingly different book with a very nice storyline. The only problems with the book is that it might seem

straight forward, but that doesn't mean you won't enjoy the ride!

1/30/2012 The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer Michelle Hodkin, 2011

This book has the ultimate connection of intrigue, romance, and grief. Although this book is a little over 400 pages,it's a very easy read. My eyes never wandered

from any page or chapter I was reading. I would recommend this book to any person who likes a fusion of different genres in their book and a lot of plot surprises.

I loved this book because it enthralls you from the very first page and is very hard to put down. The many tragedies and serendipitous revelations this book has to

offer will keep you guessing from beginning to end. I enjoyed this book so much and am anticipating the second volume!

5/30/2013 Where Things Come Back John Corey Whaley, 2011

I say this book is a mystery, but that doesn't mean it doesn't fit the other categories as well. While this story is mainly about finding a lost little brother, comic relief

is found on every page and there are traces of romance here and there. This book is a sad, unpredictable gem, and deserves more recognition. Some mild language.

1/30/2012 Your Heart Belongs to Me Dean Koontz, 2008

Your Heart Belongs to Me sounds like a love story, but I was fooled. This book is a suspenseful mystery and thriller. Dean Koontz keeps you guessing until the very

end. The plot takes many twists and turns that make you question the main character's next move. Koontz also uses detail to create great imagery. This book is a

little lengthy with 364 pages. It has some suggestive material. I liked this book a lot and if you like mysteries you will too.
