Reading & Writing in Academic Contexts is a level-four course that is designed to prepare students for a collegiate career of academic reading and writing. Course assignments included summary/response essay, evaluation essay, vocabulary quiz, research essay, and a reflective essay. The course is aimed at enhancing students’ critical thinking and writing strategies for audience and purpose. The assignments introduced students to different genres and encouraged them to consider their audience while enhancing their critical thinking skills. As students work through the assignments that lead to their research project, they learn and apply the American academic skills and requirements on writing academic essays and using sources. I used Sourcework: Academic Writing from Sources as the textbook.
