Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy, as a:

This page was created on Wednesday, October 30th, 2012, as part of Dr Pagnucci's Technology & Literacy website assignment. I wrote the following "Teaching Philosophy" as part of the course requirements:

I have been teaching English since 1989. In teaching, I follow our prophet's saying "أحب لغيرك ما تحبه لنفسك", which means: Love for others what you would love for yourself. So, I think about my students and create a learning environment that I would love for my children.

Teaching for me is not just helping students learn, but also providing support, empowering and engaging students, creating a friendly learning environment, sharing, reflecting, nurturing students' curiosity, and assessing their learning in an anxiety free environment.

As an English language teacher, one of my aims is familiarizing students with their culture and the English culture and helping them develop cross-cultural communication strategies and appreciation. I believe in ownership of our second language, so I do my best to empower my students and believe in their own second language proficiency. In my writing courses, I provide the opportunity to students to develop their own voice and be able to express themselves.

Language teaching has changed because of technology. As a result, I believe that it is my responsibility to meet this century’s teaching requirements by learning how to implement technology in my English classroom and empower my students to learn how to use a variety of technological tools to be active citizens in their real world.
