· Chemical Properties – How a substance reacts

· Physical Properties – Something you can measure about a substance without it reacting. Eg melting/boiling point, density, appearance etc

· Group – A column on the Periodic Table

· Period – A row on the Periodic Table

· Reactivity – How fast a substance reacts

· Metal – element on left of Periodic Table that forms positive ions and is shiny, strong, hard, malleable, ductile etc

· Non-metal – element on right of Periodic Table that forms negative ions and is dull, weak, brittle etc

· Malleable – can be rolled, bent or beaten into shape without shattering

· Ductile – can be stretched into a wire

· Brittle – opposite of malleable (shatters when bent)

· Mendeleev – scientist who made the first usable Periodic Table

· Triad – group of three elements with similar chemical properties

· Periodic – regularly repeating

· Octaves – Groups of seven elements with repeating patterns of behave

· Anomaly – Result that does not fit a pattern (clearly wrong)
