· Pure – every part is the same
· Element – contains only one type of atom
· Compound – more than one type of atom chemically bonded together
· Unadulterated – nothing has been added or remove (doesn’t mean pure)
· Solution – one substance dissolved in another
· Solvent – liquid that dissolves another substance to make a solution
· Solute – the substance that dissolves in the solvent to make a solution
· Soluble – can dissolve
· Insoluble – can’t dissolve
· Filtrate – the liquid that comes through a filter
· Residue – the solid that remains in the filter paper
· Chromatography – method for separating small amounts of mixtures
· Mobile phase – the part that moves during Chromatography (the solvent)
· Stationary phase – non-moving part in Chromatography (the paper)
