Law 4 The Scorers
Key Points
2 scorers to be appointed to record the scores – runs, wickets, overs
Make frequent checks with each other to ensure both books agree.
Agree with the umpires on:
· the runs scored
· wickets taken
· overs bowled.
At least at every interval and the end of the match.
Scorers must accept all instructions and signals from the umpires and acknowledge all signals separately.
Important Points
Umpires and scorers form a team and must work together to ensure the smooth flow of the game in a friendly, supportive manner.
Before the start of the match umpires and scorers should discuss:
Scorers are not responsible for the scoreboard, though they may take on the role. The batting team is responsible for keeping the scoreboard up to date.
Umpires have authority over scorers and may over-rule them; this authority should be exercised in a supportive manner.
At the end of the match the Umpires should thank the Scorers for their help and support.
