Law 25 Wide Ball
1. JUDGING A WIDE
A ball not being a ‘No Ball’ passes wide of the striker
Ø from his stance and
Ø would also passed wide of him in a normal guard position shall be called a wide unless it is sufficiently within his reach for him to be able to hit it with his bat by means of a normal cricket stroke.
2. DELIVERY NOT A WIDE
Such a delivery shall not be called a wide if:
Ø the striker moves away from the line of the ball or
Ø brings it within his reach
Ø it touches the bat or person of the striker.
3. CALL AND SIGNAL OF WIDE BALL
Ø call and signal “Wide Ball” as soon as the ball passes the striker’s wicket
Ø however, it is deemed to be a wide from the moment of delivery.
Ø you must revoke the call of wide if it touches bat or person of striker or
Ø It is called as a ‘No Ball’.
4. BALL NOT DEAD
The ball is not dead on call of ‘Wide Ball’ and further runs may be scored or wickets taken.
5. PENALTY FOR WIDE
One run.
This penalty run is scored in addition to any other runs scored and
Ø counts at moment of delivery, so that the game may be completed as a result of the call of wide.
6. RUNS FROM WIDE
Runs scored from wide deliveries are recorded as wide ball extras and count against the bowler.
Except any 5 point penalty runs.
7. WIDE NOT TO COUNT
Wide Ball does not count as part of the over.
8. DISMISSAL
Ø Striker may be out Stumped or Hit Wicket and
Ø either batsman Handled the Ball, Obstructing the Field, Run Out.
