Penalty runs come in two forms: those for deliberate actions of players and those for unintentional actions.
Unintentional actions include:
Wide Ball
Most No Balls
Ball hitting a fielder's helmet on the ground.
These actions are not reported.
Deliberate actions generally involve unfair play or dangerous play and are reportable.
Penalty runs are always awarded to the offended side and never deucted from the offending side. They are recorded as Penalty Runs in the scorebook.
