My first cousin, five times removed.
According to the wonderful website Hitchmoughs Black Country Pubs, John ran the Swan Inn in Smethwick from 1839 till 1858. His widow Jane ran it from 1860 to 1870, and his son John Frederick ran it from 1871 to 1884. Even before that, a John Rudge was running it in 1822 and John’s mother’s second husband Joseph Morris between 1834-1835. So the family had an interest in the pub for over 60 years.
