There’s quite a lot of us and, on the whole, we’re not going to be of particular interest to anyone outside our own gene pool. We wouldn’t rate an episode of Who Do You Think You Are?, I’m afraid.
All information as I currently have it is now on the site - I do still open new lines of enquiry now and then, however, and anything new will be added.
A word about the structure. I’ve divided the site into quarters based on the lines that led to my grandparents. On each of these sub home pages are links to all my direct ancestors.
I'll also be adding links to stories about some of the characters in the tree; there are a handful of people who’ve made their mark in one way or another. Some are famous(ish), a few criminal, and in a few cases I’ve just been fortunate enough to find something that illuminates an existence beyond birth, marriage, death and census return which, I’m afraid, is all there is for the vast majority of my family.
Occasionally those bare bones point to a wider story; most of my family started in the rural Midlands – Staffordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire and Leicestershire, for the most part – and most ended up in the industrial Midlands, predominantly the Black Country districts of West Bromwich, Dudley, Smethwick and Oldbury. So there’s also a bigger story – of industrialisation, poverty, life and death in 18th and 19th century England. I may ruminate on such matters at some point.
You won’t find anyone here born less than 100 years ago unless I know they are dead or I have discovered their existence through easily accessible online sources (such as FreeBMD). If I have accidentally included someone alive in your family and you would like me to remove them, do ask.
I have records for a number of families leading up to the present day; if you find a part of your own tree here and are happy to furnish more recent information for my private records, I would be immensely grateful.
I want to thank everyone I have been in touch with over the years through Ancestry, Genes Reunited etc, or who I have found by putting random names into Google, who has shared their research with me and helped build up this now quite sizeable tree. I will be trawling through my email history in an attempt to find everyone and let them know about this site – if I haven’t found you, well, I’m glad you’ve found me. Feel free to get in touch via the Contact Me link to the left; and feel free to correct me if you think I’ve got something wrong.
And most importantly, feel free to pass on your own research!
Dave
