Professional production. Very good video and sound. Menu allows you to move to sections
Moti Nativ has created this DVD to provide additional information to the book Stick Fighting: Techniques of Self-Defense by M Masaaki Hatsumi and Quintin Chambers.
Key concepts:
1. Hands slide along stick in strikes.
2. Use of leverage to apply locks and throws.
3. Moving offline of attack.
Ok this DVD has A LOT of info in it. Now I'm not saying that I like all the techniques but it does have a lot to offer.
PROs Many of the techniques are what I call "Drunk Brother-in-law or co-worker techniques" They take care of the treat but without harm to the person but leave them in a position that more damaging techniques could be used if needed. Also the DVD covers a lot of getting offline to avoid the attack and the use of leverage to apply locks and throws.
CONs Some of the techniques are just to complicated for my likening and some will only work if it is a same side grab or across grab. Also the knife defense involve allowing the knife to get in range where I prefer to use the stick to keep the knife beyond my flesh. All of the kick defenses are for front kicks that are above the belt. While these could also be used for side kicks there isn't anything for roundhouse or hook kicks.
General - I think this is a very good DVD for people that have a good base in stick work and/or empty hand self defense. Also very good for law enforcement officer or people that need to avoid injuring attackers. If you need a stick to walk, study some of the more basic DVDs 1st like:

Basic movement 1 (stepping back and outside w/ horz strike), then grab the attacking hand, place the attacking hand over the stick, step into the space & apply lock.
Variation – you can step under the stick and apply a stronger lock
Step sideways but on the inside, horz strike, grasp attacking hand with thumb up & apply lock by levering the stick against the back while using the arm as the fulcrum.
Step sideways but on the inside, vert. downward strike to attacking hand. Step back in low and rise up so that the stick is behind the attacker shoulder and his arm is behind your head. Push the stick forward to throw him. To See Photos Click Here
Same as above but when he resist, use the front side of the stick to strike him in the chest. Then use your hand farthest from his arm to punch him in the face and reach over his arm to grasp the top of the stick and force an arm bar.

Seizing Both Legs
Defense against a front kick. Step off hoz. to the outside and strike the attacking leg with a up swing. Then bring the cane under the leg and over. Click here to see photos.
Turn the stick vertical to protect center line. Drop to knee and catch front kick on shoulder while striking other leg with stick. Then use the stick to apply leg lock.
Step off line and trap the front kick with the stick and the forearm. Then twist the foot to drop the attacker.
Step sideways but on the outside, strike arm and use a circular motion,
Step sideways on the inside, strike the arm, grasp the arm, slide the stick behind the arm and lock it.
1st basic movement off to the outside with strike to ribs and then behind the person with the came across the chest. Lift up in a bear hug and then drop down with the stick across the shins to pull up and cause them to drop on their face.
Do a 2 handed down block with the stick and then step behind (while controlling front hand) place stick across shins and push shoulder into attackers upper legs/butt.
Step out and swing the stick up to strike the arm then transition into a wrap lock and step in and throw them to the ground. Click Here to see photos.
Turn your body 90 degrees away from the kick so the kick goes behind you then when the kick is extended turn back and catch the leg.

Defense Wrist Holds and Grabs

As the attacker reaches in, drop down and block the hand with your forearm is horizontal to the ground and the stick is vertical. Then reach under with your free arm and do an X hold to pull him down.

Defense against a 2 handed grab. Release one hand from the stick and move it towards the other while turning the stick up. Once the grab has been removed from the had you released, reach under and do an X hold on both hands.
Defense against a 2 handed grab. Release your right hand from the stick and reach past your left hand on the stick while moving your body to the left. Then swing low to turn the attacker around so his back is to you.
Same side grab to wrist. Raise hand up. This cause the attacker to bend his wrist. Reach over his hand with your free hand peeling the hand off and applying the lock while placing the stick under his arm and to his chest to apply an arm bar. Click here for photos.
A modified arm bar that can be used.
Works for same side or cross grab. Use the end of the stick that is free strike the attacker in the temple while pulling the held end of the stick to your side. Then wrap the stick over the hand and do an X hold.
We come down with a pumo strike and the other person grabs our wrist from below. We can then move the stick so we can do various locks.
Very similar to Kasumi uchi Striking the Temple above. Pull back the grabbed end of the stick while striking the temple. But this time take the stick under the arm and do the lock.
Across grab. Raise the stick and then flip it over the grabbing hand and do an X hold so that the attacker's pinky is on top. Click here for photos.
This is an escort hold used by 2 people to escort a prisoner. Stick comes in from the back and to the hip forming an arm bar on both sides.

The attacker grabs our lapel and turns to throw you. Drop down to prevent the throw and then place the stick across the attackers chest and pull them down as you back up. Or instead of going across the chest press the tip into the neck or collar bone.
The attacker comes in to grab your lapel or 2 handed push. Do a upper block with the stick to knock the attacker hands up and off balance. Then do a 2 handed forward thrust with the side or tip of the stick to knock the attacker down.
Place the stick under and then over the arms and then do an X hold.
Step back and thrust the tip to the attacker neck/chin then take your free hand and go under the attackers arms sweep them / grasp one of the attacker's arm and place the stick under the arm to do a lock. Click Here for Photos.
Defense against bear hug from behind.
Head butt back into attacker then drop down and strike attackers grip with stick. Grab one of his arms as you come out and place the stick under the arm and across the chest for arm bar.
Defense against bear hug from behind. Step back into a horse stance going across one of the attacker's leg / seating down on his leg and shoot out arms. Reach down and place the stick behind the leg. Pull up on the leg to take him down.
Defense against bear hug from behind.
Drop into horse stance and shoot out arms. Step to the attacker's side and place the stick around him and pull up and into the floating rib and then drop down repeat for the legs and take them down.
Similar as above but you place the stick behind the attackers back which is behind yours. Seems hard to do.

Release from Stick holds
Attacker grabs the stick beyond your grip. Works one handed grab or 2.
Place your hand over the attacker's hand and bring that end up so that the stick is vertical. Then continue to make a circle which will apply a lock.
Same ideal as Bo gasehi above.
Attacker has grabbed the end of the stick with 2 hands and we are in a tog of war.
Turn the stick vertical and throw the attacker.
The attacker pushes us to the ground and is over us. Release left hand and wrap his right leg. Use your right leg to push into his left leg and push the stick into his right shin. This causes him to fall and use your left arm that is wrapping his right leg to do a leg lock. NOTE: most fighters will drop to the knees and put us in the full mount and this will not work.
