Key Concepts:
Real world violence is unexpected, fast, and close quarter.
The attacker isn't going to hold out the knife while he is 5 feet way and then attack like in martial arts class.
Everyone Freezes
How you tell your story to the law enforcement officers can make the difference between you being the victim or the attacker.
Review:
First the information in this DVD is based on the information in Rory Miller's book Facing Violence: Preparing for the Unexpected To get the most out of the video, read the book. I would also recommend reading his earlier book Meditations on Violence: A Comparison of Martial Arts Training & Real World Violence.
The DVD is very well produced. It is basicly setup in a lecture format. It is mainly directed a people that have some martial arts training being it addresses the aspects that are different from simulated violence in the dogo / training hall vs. the real world. For example most knife defenses in martial arts involve an attacker showing the knife when they are 5 feet away and then moving towards you. In real life, they walk up to you talking / asking questions and stab you before you know it. but is useful to anyone wanting to prepare for violence in the real world. That said, it is also very well suited for anyone that wants to be prepared for violence in the real world.
Also note that the information covered here is useful for the person that rely on open hand defense or weapons defense (gun and knife).
