What is a Technique?? Think about it as a guide, template, or recipe.
Look at each step of the technique and think of what the purpose is. Think about how things might vary in a real life. In a real life confrontation, things are fast and not by the text book. By understanding the thought behind the steps of the technique, you can make modification based on what you are given. For example if a technique says break the grip and then strike front of the throat, but in a confrontation the person turn away from you after breaking the grip. What do you do??? Answer - Forget the throat strike and strike the base of the back of the head.
Same as there is no perfect / only recipe for cornbread or vegetable soup, there is no perfect technique. These are just some suggestions.
