I had made a tire man in the past and liked it but it was VERY heavy, hard to store, left black marks on my canes, and I couldn't punch or kick it. So I decided to make a practice target that would hold up to strikes from the cane but could also be punched and kicked.
I first took carpet (a scap section from one of the local suppliers - Free) and attached it to a lawn timber but this was rather hard on the legs when doing muay thai kicks. So I took a small section of wood with a hole drilled in it. This was to provide a tie point to hang the bag from and to hang an inter bag (intertube with sand) see photo below. I cut the intertube and folded and bent over the bottom section and taped it off. I then filled the tube with approximately 40 pound of sand. I then folded and bent the top and taped it. I then used cord to tie this off to the block of wood.
I then rolled the tube and block into the carpet. After two rolls, I drove 2 nails through the carpet into the wood to secure them together.
I then continued to roll the carpet until it was done. I then used tape to warp the top (head), bottom (knee to feet), and 3 mid points (collar bone/shoulder, solar plexus/bottom rib and hips/groin). I also painted the area between the head and the collar bone/shoulder red to repesent the neck, throat, and on the back side the base of the skull.
NOTES:
I made mine the same hight as me so when I hang it 2 inches off the ground it is like a 6 ft tall person.
