NATHANIEL THOMAS SIMPSON, J.P., agriculturist and grazier, "Holmesdale," Antechamber Bay, Kangaroo Island, was born on December 8, I860, at Hog Bay, Kangaroo Island, being the eldest son of the late Mr. Thomas Simpson, who managed the post-office at that place for twenty-seven years. This gentleman, who died in 1903, was formerly a Lincolnshire man, and followed a seafaring life for many years. Mr. N. T. Simpson from a very early age assisted his grandfather (the late Mr. Nathaniel Wallace Thomas, of Antechamber Bay) in farming pursuits and continued with him until the demise of the latter gentleman in 1879. He then carried on operations on his own account, and a few years later was joined in partnership by his father, whose death necessitated the winding-up of the estate in 1904. Since that period Mr. Simpson has acquired his present fine property, consisting of about 1,000 acres, and holds, on perpetual lease, a fourth interest in a second estate of 1,700 acres. He cultivates barley, and raises sheep of the merino type with which he has met with considerable success. The gentleman under review has served two terms as a member of the Dudley District Council, and takes a general interest in political matters, also in all affairs of sport, etc., on the island. His appointment of Justice of the Peace dates back about six years, and his services in the discharge of this office have been requisitioned on very many occasions.
