HARRY LASHMAR, agriculturist and grazier, "Kent Farm," Antechamber Bay, Kangaroo Island, was born at Adelaide in 1860, and is the youngest son of the late Mr. Thomas Young Lashmar, formerly engaged in the butchering trade at Mitcham. He was connected with his brothers from an early age in farming and shepherding pursuits, continuing with them until his twenty-second year, when he purchased 95 acres of land at Antechamber Bay, which was worked with varying success for some time. Subsequently Mr. Lashmar added to this holding, and now possesses a nice property of 1,500 acres of grazing and agricultural country. During the past ten years he has introduced the use of artificial manures on the estate, and has found a considerable increase in the harvesting brings the number up to 700. These are of the merino type, and Mr. Lashmar finds the pastoral department of his industry a very profitable one. He has taken some share in public affairs, having served a couple of terms in the Dudley District Council, and interests himself in local matters generally. In 1886 Mr. Lashmar married Frances Ann Ladd, daughter of Mr. John Buick, of the American River, Kangaroo Island, and there was a family of ten children, of whom three sons and six daughters survive. The sons are all associated with their father in the management of the farm.
