How to Register Your Class(es) Online
Please follow the steps below to register:
If you have already created an account, please update your sign in info to be:
login= your email
password = your school name as one word with first letter capitalized. Example: Vista Square= Vistasquare.
If your school has less than 8 letters, please use your school name with first letter capitalized and add "school" to the end.
Ex: Rohrschool.
If you have not already created an account, click the green ‘Sign Up’ button in the top right corner. Please use your email as your login and your school name as all one word with the first letter capitalized. If your school name is less than 8 letters, please add "school" to the end of your school name. Once completed, you will use this login information to sign up for a program.
You will then be prompted to complete a ‘New Leader Profile’. After completing and saving this profile, you will return to the original page and be able to register for a program by name and grade level.
Scroll down to ‘Partnership’ and select ‘Book Now’ for the CVESD Coastal Education Program that you would like to register for.
After selecting the program, you will be taken to a calendar that will allow you to select a month of the year and see available dates. When registering, please record the expected number of teachers, aides, and parent chaperones in the ‘Number of adults’ category. Admission for teachers and aides are included in the program, as well as two parent chaperones per class. (3 total adults per class)
Once you complete the form and click ‘Request Booking’, you will receive an email stating that you have requested a program. After it is officially entered into the LCDC system by Education Department staff, you will get a confirmation email with your program name, date(s), and additional information.
Before Your Field Trip
1. ***NEW *** Transportation will be reserved for you this year!
Check on Tripfinder at least 2 weeks before your visit to make sure your transportation is reserved correctly. Click here to check the estimated cost for your school site. Prices usually range from $70- $140 depending on distance from center.
If you have won free transportation from the Port of San Diego, ALL visiting teachers must complete the required paperwork, then the Port will be invoiced for the cost of your transportation.
Important! You MUST let Karen Quiros know if your chaperones are not planning on riding the school bus with the students. Parents may NOT drive their own cars into the center.

Day Tripper (MTS), $1.50/participant All Day Use of Public Transportation (Must Pre-Arrange!)
2. Make sure all teachers in your team have the link to this webpage https://sites.google.com/site/cvesdfieldtrips/ so they can access the information they need.
3. Click on your program link to get all of your specific program information. Prepare your students with resources provided on your specific program page to ensure their optimal learning.
4. Chaperones: In regards to parent volunteers, you may utilize as many parent volunteers as you feel are needed to safely and successfully facilitate the experience for your students. Parent volunteers must complete the current volunteer protocol at your school site.

Notify Families: As part of our Coastal Education Program, students have the opportunity to see both the indoor and outdoor exhibits at the Living Coast Discovery Center (LCDC). During this time, students may encounter LCDC visitors.
Admission and Program Costs
TK-3rd Grade classes: $100/Class (26 students max + 3 adults)
4th-8th Grades classes: $125/Class (32 students max + 3 adults)
Adults= teachers, student teachers or other chaperones. Additional adults over the 3 included with the admission costs will be charged $10/adult.
NEW POLICY: Groups must have a minimum of 3 adults per class and a maximum of 8 adults per class.
One payment to the Living Coast Discovery Center, cash, check, charge or P.O accepted. No coupons or memberships accepted- this is an extra program fee
Capacity: Up to three K-3rd classes/day or up to two 4th-8th class/day
CHARTER SCHOOL FEE: $2/student extra paid to CVESD
Program Structure:
While on a study trip your students will participate in a standards-based lesson and be led on a tour of the facility where they will get to have up-close encounters with animals and even touch a sting ray or shark. Students will most likely also get to do a scavenger hunt and explore the refuge trails depending on which program is chosen. Please click on your specific program in the menu to the left to get your detailed schedule of your day.

Helpful Chaperones

What is the schedule for the day?
Lower Grade Classes
If you are coming with one or two other classes you will need to be in 2 groups for the entire day. Half of the time you will be doing the Coastal Education Lesson with an outside exhibit tour and the other half of the time you will be provided resources for the self- guided portion of your visit.

“On Your Own Activities”: You will get to pick 3 of the following 4 activities to do with your students when you are on your own: Scavenger Hunt inside the museum, Trail Hike, Read Aloud, Lunch
Preschool/T-K & Kindergarten: 1.5 hour program, 3 hour day
Group A: Program first, On your own activities second
Group B: On your own activities first, Program second
1st – 3rd: 2 hour program, 4 hour day
Group A: Program first, On your own activities second
Group B: On your own activities first, Program second
Upper Grade Classes
Your students will be here for a 4 hour program. They will have about 25 minutes for lunch between their morning and afternoon lessons and activities. All classes will have a 2 - part lesson, a Docent Tour, a Scavenger Hunt and time for lunch.
