Please select the Coastal Education Program you booked for your trip to the Living Coast. We've created activities designed to enhance your students' learning experience both before and after your scheduled field trip. Also included is a program description, standards addressed and a sample of the daily schedule.
Arthropods are all around, just waiting to be observed by bug-eyed scientists. With microscopes, bug boxes and magnifying glasses, the small world of arthropods will come alive. Students will explore the different structures that allow these animals to survive a very threatening world.
Come soar into the world of birds and find out what structures they have to help them survive. Students will get to “try out” different beaks to see how successful they are and handle bird biofacts. Students will also take a short hike and use binoculars to identify some birds' special structures.
Dig into the world of plant structures and adaptations. An engaging lab, where students will get to practice their observation skills and study the leaves of real native plants found right here on the Sweetwater Marsh Refuge. They might even get to find and meet some plant eaters!
