Free CSET Preparation Workshops
For future SCIENCE and MATH teachers
(CSET - California Subject Examinations for Teachers®)

There is a profound shortage of science and math teachers in California and the nation.  To address this need, CSUN is offering free Science and Math CSET preparation courses to prepare candidates to pass these assessments of subject mater competence so that they may earn California Science and/or Math Teaching Credentials.

  • Free 44-hour CSET Test Preparation Workshops
  • $750 stipend upon admission to CSUN math or science credential programs*
  • $1000 stipend upon issuance of a physics, science or math credential* 
  • Free parking for the CSET Workshops  (Maps)
  • Free test preparation books to prepare you for the CSET exams.
  • Free advisement for admission to credential program
    • Trying to get into the credential program late in the cycle Ask about these special admissions programs to accelerate your credential program:
    • Workshops are designed for
      • Prospective Teachers intending to apply to a credential program in Science  (Science subtests I&II) or  Math (Math subtests I&II).
      • Teachers seeking an added authorization. Teachers with a Multiple Subject or Single Subject credential, who are seeking an added authorization. (Science subtests I&II);  Math (Math subtests I&II); Physics (subtest III)
      • To add authorization to teach general science or math, you need to
      • Demonstrate content area subject-matter competence (CSET)
        • Complete a three-semester-unit or four-quarter-unit course in methodology directly related to teaching in a departmentalized setting in the specific content area sought. (SED 525S-Science, or SED525M-Math)

GENERAL SCIENCE - Subtest I (CSET test 215)

Subtest I covers general science content while Subtest II covers the candidate's area of concentration. A credential in this subject matter area authorizes teaching general and integrated science and the area of concentration. Science: Biological Sciences is the credential area for Life Sciences, and Science: Geosciences is the credential area for Earth and Space Sciences.

MATHEMATICS - Subtest I & II  (CSET test1 211, 212)

Math consists of three subtests.  Each CSET Math subtest may be taken and passed separately.  Subtest 1 (211) covers Algebra and Number Theory.  Subtest 2 (212) covers Geometry, Statistics, and Probability.  Subtest 3 (213) covers Calculus and Math History. All subtests consist of both multiple choice and constructed response questions.

California educators planning to teach math at the secondary school level typically must pass the CSET Mathematics exam. CSET Math consists of three subtests.  Each CSET Math subtest may be taken and passed separately.  Subtest 1 (211) covers Algebra and Number Theory.  Subtest 2 (212) covers Geometry, Statistics, and Probability.  Subtest 3 (213) covers Calculus and Math History. All subtests consist of both multiple choice and constructed response questions.


Sessions are from 6-10pm – Participants must attend all sessions in ED 1214/1216

*Eligibility for stipend is based upon availability of funding, with priority given to students who have attended all sessions and earned their science credential at CSUN. Consideration will be made for students from other universities who have completed their science or math methods courses (SED525S & SED 525M) at CSUN.
