Department of NJ SUVCW Officer’s Meeting Minutes.

1. The meeting was held at Carole Moore’s restaurant on Cooper Street in Beverly from 12 noon to 2:30 PM. Carole served a fine lunch.

2. In attendance were: Ron Brower, Camp 100 (Commander); Jeff Heagy, Camp 104 (Sr Vice Commander); Fred Mossbrucker, Camp 7 (Jr Vice Commander); David Martin, Camp 100, (Sec/Treas); Bruce Sirak , Camp 100; Mike Kovacs, Camp 104.

3. David Martin presented a problem he was having getting the Department’s Form 990 postcard form filed for our tax exempt status. He had his tax accountant look into it. It appears we are OK

for this year and do not need to file again until after July 1, 2013.

4. All bills to date are paid up.

5. Discussion was had on how to better invest the money in our four CD accounts, which are getting from .3 to .7 % interest. Agreement was not to go for anything risky. Maybe an annuity fund (Vanguard was mentioned) if the management fee is not too great. Rather than forming

an investment committee, Brothers is urged to investigate ideas and report back to the Commander if they find anything interesting.

6. The recurring problem of locating a good Encampment location (with two meeting rooms and a dining room) was discussed. Ron Brower suggested the Clarion Hotel in Toms River. David Martin will double check prices. (At the last Encampment we agreed to look for somewhere

farther north). Encampment date is set for June 8, 2013.

7. We went over the officers’ list as reported on Form 49 in June.

The following corrections and changes were made:

Ron Brower’s new address is 31 Musket Lane, Whiting NJ 08759; 908-433-4735; Bro31@comcast.net.

Jeff Heagy’s correct contact information is: 215-915-5519; heagmeister@verizon.net

New patriotic instructor is David Hann

New Chaplain is Bruce Sirak

New Graves Registration officer is Fred Otto

New Counselor is Steve Philpitt

Civil War Memorials Officer position is still vacant

8. David Martin needs assistance with Secretary position (taking minutes and handling meeting notices)

9. Bill Moore suggested putting blue ribbons on veterans’ graves to honor Civil War soldiers.

10. David Martin suggested the Department use Restoration Fund money to print copies of

Bob MacAvoy’s list of state Civil war burials, alphabetically by Cemetery. Motion made and passed to spend $3000, if agreeable to department Council. Booklets (3-4 counties per booklet) would be sponsored by NJ Dept SUV, printed and distributed by Longstreet House. All income after expenses would go to the department.

11. Fred Mossbrucker is working on having the state legislature declare May 2013 as GAR/SUVCW month.

12. Jeff Heagy reported that the department won an award from National for having the most new members under the age of 40 last year.

13. David Martin needs to check with the group of musicians that recently joined Camp 10 but may want to set up their own new camp.

14. Updated officer list needs to be sent to Buzz Smithcors for inclusion on department website

15. Several Brothers will be attending Mullica Hill event on Oct 13/14. Brothers were encouraged to set up information/recruiting booths at events they attend.

16. Arrangements for Remembrance Day were discussed, including getting a New Jersey table at the pancake breakfast offered by the Gettysburg SUV Camp.
