The Union Miles neighborhood was originally a part of the village of Newburg.  One of the first settlers was James Kingsbury and Kingsbury Run is named after him.  He operated a sawmill along the stream known as Kingsbury Run today.  The Miles section of the neighborhood was named after Charles Miles.  In the area of E. 91st and E. 93rd, steel mills were developed which drew Irish, Welsh, Slovenian, Romanian and Czech immigrants to the area.  The Miles Park Historical District today (Miles and E. 93rd) was the public square of Newburg Village.
