The Industrial Valley area is home to part of Kingsbury Run.  Kingsbury Run is a natural watershed that carries creeks and storm water from Warrensville Heights and Maple Heights to the Cuyahoga River.  The area was named after James Kingsbury who was one of the earliest settlers in the Western Reserve.  In 1797 he was the first inhabitant of Newburgh.  Kingsbury Run is the ravine separating Cleveland from Newburgh.  It became a route for numerous railroads and also became the site of John D. Rockefeller's oil refinery and Doan's oil and naphtha works.  Kingsbury Run became famous because of the Cleveland Torso Murders.  This area grew because of shipping on the Great Lakes, coal brought by rail from Pennsylvania, and the growing iron industry.  American Steel and Wire was located here.  Republic Steel formed in the 1930's and in 1984 was acquired by LTV Steel.  John Rockefeller established the Standard Oil Company here and the Grasselli Company incorporated in 1866.  Located there today are are trucking companies, the U.S. Post Office Main Branch and the Cuyahoga County Pre-Release Center.

Duck Island is home to the West Side Market and Joel Scranton's "Scranton Flats."
